Roots/Raices 2014, is a journey of Manny Cepeda back to his earliest influences in music. The music of Bomba y Plena was brought to view by Manny's Uncle 'Rafael Cepeda Atiles' known as the patriarch of Bomba y Plena in Puerto Rico. Rafael's influences in Manny since his early childhood molded him into what he is today, a composer, a singer, and a percussionist. The songs were created in honor of his uncle, and the rhythms of "Bomba y Plena." These 7 Plenas and 3 Bombas are to Manny the teaching that his uncle and cousins gave passed on to him. It's time to give back to the roots/raices that molded Manny into a grateful musician of today.
Manny Cepeda's newest CD of the Salsa/Fusion genre is a fiery mix of rhythms, melodies, and lyrics in combination with the fusion of Cumbia, Salsa, and African Rhythms. Manny drew from his vast touring of the Caribbean, South America, and West African countries to bring you a spicy mix of energy. "My latest CD release Padre Querido was dedicated to my father, Don Leonides Rivera.
I submitted my CD for a Latin Grammy in the “Salsa/Fusion” category because my music is a mix of rhythms I learned and worked with on my trips as a musician with the US Navy Band in the Caribbean, South America, African Continent, and Europe. My foundation is "Salsa" but I also incorporate other rhythms.
A perfect example of this is my single release which combines hard Salsa and Mariachi music in the same song. Enjoy!
